I am Gil Hans, the design designer of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Golf Course.
I am very honored to participate in the "Ballyshear Golf Links" project. It is the first golf course project for us in Thailand, and it is very rewarding and exciting to create 18 holes on this unique landscape that incorporates the concept and philosophy of course design cultivated by history and tradition.
We plan to completely renovate the given site and transform it into a Scottish links that is the origin of the golf game. The basis of the design is the "Rideau Golf Course" built on Long Island, a suburb of New York, by Charles Blair Macdonald and Seth Reynaud. While following the theory and philosophy they adopted there, we will reproduce unique and theoretically excellent holes such as the "Redang" and "Channel".
Since it is a membership-only course, it must be an interesting course that golfers will want to play often, and they must be motivated to face the challenge. With this in mind, I would like to see a course that is fresh and interesting for Thai golfers. The completed course will be carefully maintained, with hard and fast greens that are perfectly manicured. There is no doubt that courses that do not cut corners on maintenance, an important aspect of the golf game, will have a greater asset value.
I am very excited that you all agree with these ideas and we will enjoy the process together. We look forward to the day when the traditional and distinctive Ballyshear Golf Links is completed and can be introduced to Thailand's golfers.
